A practical course of Spanish diction for singers which helps you to master perfect diction and gives you the tools to achieve great interpretations and connect with your audiences.
The course is designed to guide you step by step, incorporating the sounds that make you sound like a native speaker. It combines written materials with videos in which Dr. Patricia shows you how to pronounce the different vowels and consonants to help your progress skyrocket. Along the course, you will hear and repeat song texts from some of the most common pieces of the Spanish and Latin American art song repertoire. At the end of this fun 6-hour course you will have a clear Spanish diction, let's start!.
Your instructor
Patricia Caicedo is a soprano, musicologist, and physician. Her research is grounded in decolonial studies and focuses on Latin American and Iberian art song, especially repertoire in Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese, and Indigenous languages, as well as the relationship between music and health.
She has published 16 books, numerous critical editions of scores, and scholarly articles, and has recorded 11 albums. Among her most noted publications are The Latin American Art Song: Sounds of the Imagined Nations, a reference work in the field, and Somos lo que escuchamos, which explores the impact of music on individual and social health.
She has performed and given lectures and masterclasses around the world, serving as artist-in-residence at institutions such as Boston Conservatory, Eastman School of Music, Montclair University, New York University, Texas State University, Columbia University, Florida State University, the University of California (Riverside and Irvine), St. Olaf College, Cal Poly, Loyola University Chicago, Columbia College Chicago, University of Texas at Austin, Wake Forest University, Brigham Young University, University of South Florida, Keene State College, Brooklyn College, Queens College, Gordon College, and many others.
She is the founder and director of the Barcelona Festival of Song®, a summer program and concert series dedicated to the study of the history and performance of Latin American and Iberian art song in Spanish, Catalan, Portuguese, and Indigenous languages. The festival will celebrate its 21st edition in 2025.
Patricia holds a Ph.D. in Musicology from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a Medical Doctor degree from the Escuela Colombiana de Medicina. From 2020 to 2022, she served on the Executive Board of the International Music Council of UNESCO.
